Veteran Actor Lalude Laments Non-Payment After Campaigning for Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu

Nollywood icon, Fatai Adekunle Adetayo, popularly known as Lalude, has voiced his frustration over unpaid promises made to him and fellow entertainers who supported President Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during the 2023 general elections.

The veteran Yoruba actor made the remarks during a recent episode of the Behind the Fame podcast.

Lalude, widely known for his traditional healer roles in Yoruba films, alleged that despite actively campaigning for the politicians, he and his colleagues received no financial compensation as initially promised.

“After we campaigned for Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu, we were not given a dime,” he stated, expressing deep disappointment over what he described as a breach of trust.

He claimed that Lagos socialite and transport leader MC Oluomo facilitated the engagement, assuring the actors of a substantial reward.

“MC promised me and Alapini. He asked us to state what we wanted. We did, but we got nothing till today,” Lalude said, adding that they were promised N1.5 million each for their involvement in the campaign activities.

The actor warned that the neglect of entertainers who supported political campaigns could have consequences in future elections.

“They will still come to us by 2027, and we are waiting for them,” he added, criticizing what he called political ingratitude.

His comments have sparked renewed discussions about how entertainers are used during campaigns without follow-through on promises made to them.

Lalude’s remarks come on the heels of similar complaints from fellow entertainers, including Aminatu Papapa and Alapini, who also recently expressed regret over their involvement in political endorsements.

The issue has drawn attention to the treatment of celebrities during election campaigns and the need for accountability from political actors.
