Wike Takes a Swipe at Amaechi, Says Former Minister May Have ‘Spiritual Problem’

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched a scathing attack on his predecessor and political rival, Rotimi Amaechi, suggesting the former Minister of Transportation may be battling a “spiritual problem.”

Wike made the remarks on Friday night while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he addressed Amaechi’s recent claim that he owns no property because he is not corrupt.

Dismissing the statement as deceptive, Wike questioned how a man who had held high-ranking political positions for over two decades could claim not to own property.

“He was Speaker for eight years, Governor for eight years, and Minister for eight years, yet he says he doesn’t have houses? Then something is spiritually wrong,” Wike said. “Nigerians should know the kind of characters deceiving them every day.”

The FCT Minister alleged that Amaechi owns a lavish property in the upscale Guzape area of Abuja.

“You need a bunker to destroy that house. I’m not saying I want to destroy it, I’m just pointing out the quality. You can’t be poor and own a house like that,” he added.

Wike further accused Amaechi of hypocrisy, referencing issues surrounding contract payments in federal agencies.

“I heard him saying NPA and NIMASA have not paid contractors. Yes, because they haven’t paid his wife, who is a contractor,” he claimed.

The comments are the latest in a long-running political feud between the two Rivers State strongmen, both of whom have traded accusations and political jabs since falling out during their time in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and later in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
