Charly Boy Cautions Nigerians: Don’t Mistake Political Coalitions for Real Change

Veteran entertainer and social activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has raised concerns over the growing chorus for political unity ahead of the 2027 general elections, questioning whether the emerging coalitions are genuinely committed to national transformation or simply power-hungry alliances in disguise.

In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle during a live Spaces session, Charly Boy cautioned Nigerians against being swayed by catchy slogans and grand gestures that lack substance.

He argued that while many are calling for unity to “take back Nigeria,” the real question remains: Unite for what, exactly?

“Everybody is shouting ‘Let’s unite and take back Nigeria.’ The noise is loud. The outrage? Clear. But when you look past the press conferences, the hashtags, the handshakes… one question still dey remain: Unite for what exactly?” he asked.

The activist went on to criticize some of the individuals spearheading these new political alignments, suggesting that many are former power players now rebranding themselves as agents of change.

“Some of the same people that sank this country are suddenly singing redemption songs,” he said, adding that “sometimes, it’s just old wolves in new agbada.”

Charly Boy warned against exchanging one set of elites for another under the guise of progress, stating that true transformation requires more than a change of faces.

“We don’t just need new names. We need new values, new visions, and people with the guts to live by them,” he noted.

Concluding his remarks, he called on Nigerians to approach the 2027 elections not with the mindset of revenge but with a mission to rescue the nation from recurring cycles of failed leadership.

“Let’s not trade one oppressor for another with nicer grammar,” he said. “Let’s ask the hard questions now before our dreams of a better Nigeria are again snatched from us.”
