Ibadan mourns revered monarch just days after his 90th birthday celebration

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90, marking the end of a brief but significant reign as the 43rd traditional ruler of the ancient Yoruba city.

It was gathered that the monarch died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, exactly one year after he ascended the throne.

His passing comes only two days after celebrating his 90th birthday on July 5.

Oba Olakulehin was officially installed and presented with the staff of office by Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024.

His reign, though short-lived, was marked by a deep commitment to peace, tradition, and unity among the people of Ibadan.
