Cristiano Ronaldo has signed the most lucrative contract in sporting history, agreeing to a staggering £492 million deal over two years to extend his stay at Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.
The eye-watering agreement will see the Portuguese icon earn an astonishing basic salary of £488,000 per day.
The new deal ensures that Ronaldo, now 40, will remain at the club until he turns 42, further cementing his role as the face of the Saudi Pro League’s ambitious global expansion.
The contract surpasses all previous benchmarks in professional sport, both in football and beyond, highlighting the league’s continued investment in attracting and retaining elite talent.
Ronaldo’s impact since joining Al Nassr in late 2022 has been undeniable.
On the pitch, he’s been a consistent goal scorer and leader, while off it, he has drawn international attention to the league, increasing its visibility, broadcast reach, and commercial appeal.
His contract extension is widely seen as a strategic move to maintain that momentum.

Sources close to the negotiations say the new terms include commercial and ambassadorial commitments beyond football, making Ronaldo not just a player but a central figure in Saudi Arabia’s broader sporting and branding objectives.
The deal reportedly does not include performance-based bonuses, with the basic salary standing on its own as the highest ever recorded.
Ronaldo’s renewed commitment to Al Nassr and the Saudi Pro League signals his ongoing influence at the highest levels of the sport.
At 40, he remains a marketable and competitive figure, proving that age is no barrier to commanding record-breaking contracts especially when legacy and global impact are part of the equation.
On top of his £178m-a-year wages, Ronny is banking a £24.5m signing bonus – which will increase to £38m if he triggers the second year of his contract.
