Ruud Van Nistelrooy Leaves Leicester City by Mutual Consent

Ruud van Nistelrooy has parted ways with Leicester City by mutual agreement, just seven months after taking charge of the club.

The former Manchester United striker was appointed in November but was unable to prevent the Foxes from being relegated from the Premier League.

Van Nistelrooy’s short stint at the King Power Stadium saw flashes of promise, but ultimately ended in disappointment as the club dropped into the Championship.

With Leicester now preparing for life in the second tier, both parties have agreed to part ways as part of a restructuring effort.

Although the Dutchman’s departure is effective immediately, Leicester will officially process a compensation package after July 1 to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

This financial arrangement is designed to protect the club’s budget planning for the upcoming season while satisfying regulatory requirements.

Van Nistelrooy, 48, leaves with a sense of unfinished business but also with the respect of players and staff, having been credited with bringing professionalism and tactical clarity during a turbulent campaign.

However, results on the pitch ultimately fell short of expectations.

Leicester are now in search of a new head coach to lead their promotion bid in the 2025/26 Championship season. Club officials are expected to move quickly in appointing a replacement as pre-season preparations loom.
