In a strategic pre-election engagement, All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate for Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Seyi Jakande, and his running mate, Hon. Niyi Awodogan, met with leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Chapter, during a special service at St. Paul Church, Ilupeju, on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
The meeting, which brought together religious leaders, political stakeholders, and community members, served as a strong show of unity ahead of the local council elections slated for July 12.
The CAN leadership publicly endorsed all APC candidates in the LCDA, giving a major boost to the Jakande-Awodogan ticket and the party’s councillorship hopefuls.
Among the dignitaries present were: Hon. Adeyemi Alli, Member of the House of Representatives for Mushin Federal Constituency I; CAN Coordinator Rt. Rev. Engr. E.O.B. Durowoju, PhD; APC Party LCDA Chairman, Alhaji Ismail Babatunde Kazeem (Tunkaz); Hon. Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission; and the incumbent LCDA Chairman, Hon. Rasaq Ajala.
Other CAN officials, including Vice Coordinator Evangelist Chibuzor Eze and Secretary Elder Dada Olusanya, were also in attendance.
Rev. Durowoju commended Hon. Ajala for his performance in office and described Hon. Jakande as a worthy successor.
“In recognizing Hon. Rasaq Ajala’s legacy, we stand together to support Hon. Seyi Jakande’s aspiration for the chairmanship,” he stated, urging the Christian community to participate actively in the forthcoming elections.
Hon. Alli, in his address, presented the list of APC councillorship candidates across all political wards and reiterated that Jakande’s nomination was the product of party consensus.
“Our support is about our shared vision for the future,” he said.
Speaking to the gathering, Hon. Jakande encouraged residents to turn out on July 12, assuring them that his administration would build on the foundation laid by Hon. Ajala.
In his own speech, the outgoing chairman, Hon. Ajala, emphasized the importance of governance that transcends religious differences, calling for unity around a common goal of progress and accountability.
The event concluded with prayers from CAN leaders for the success of the APC candidates, underscoring the strong bond between civic responsibility and faith-based support in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye.
With momentum clearly in their favour, the APC team now turns its focus to the polls.
