Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has reaffirmed his allegiance to the Labour Party (LP), distancing himself from any ongoing coalition efforts involving opposition figures or political realignment across party lines.
Speaking during an interactive session with members of the Abia State Global Economic Council in Umuahia, Otti made it clear that he remains committed to the party under which he was elected and has neither attended nor been invited to any coalition meetings.
“I want to state it clearly: I am not in any coalition. I have not been invited, and I have not attended any such meetings,” the governor declared, in response to growing speculation over his potential involvement in an emerging national opposition coalition.
The governor also addressed rumours suggesting he might be considering defection.
“I am too busy delivering the mandate the good people of Abia gave me. I am not looking for where to decamp to,” Otti said, emphasizing his focus on governance rather than political maneuvering.
Responding to questions about internal disputes within the Labour Party, Otti acknowledged that the party had faced challenges in the past but had overcome them.
“Yes, the Labour Party had its issues, but we fought through to the Supreme Court and reclaimed it. We are still here and standing firm,” he said.
Otti’s remarks come at a time when several opposition leaders are consolidating efforts to form a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) being floated as a possible unifying platform.
However, Otti’s comments underline his disinterest in such political alignments and his dedication to his current role and party.
