Spanish goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga has officially signed with Arsenal from Chelsea in a deal worth £5 million, marking the Gunners’ first major signing of the summer transfer window.
The announcement ends weeks of speculation surrounding the shot-stopper’s future, following his return to Stamford Bridge after a loan spell at Real Madrid.
Kepa, 30, expressed excitement about his move to the Emirates Stadium and his belief in Arsenal’s ongoing project.
“My feeling joining this club is that we are so close to winning,” he said in his first interview as an Arsenal player. “There’s ambition, a clear identity, and I want to be part of what’s coming next.”
The former Athletic Bilbao keeper is expected to bring experience and depth to Mikel Arteta’s goalkeeping department, potentially challenging David Raya for the starting position.
With over 200 professional appearances and experience in both the Premier League and La Liga, Kepa brings a seasoned presence to the squad.
Arsenal’s interest in Kepa had been linked to their desire to strengthen their squad with proven talent as they continue their push for silverware in domestic and European competitions.
The Gunners narrowly missed out on the Premier League title last season and are looking to build a side capable of going the distance in 2025.
Kepa joined Chelsea in 2018 for a then-world record fee for a goalkeeper but faced a turbulent spell with inconsistent form and high competition. Now, he looks set for a fresh start in North London under Arteta’s guidance.
Arsenal fans will be eager to see if his arrival can help deliver the trophies the club has been chasing in recent years.
