Omokri Taunts Obi, El-Rufai: ‘Your Sons Don’t Even Support You!’

Omokri Dismisses Opposition Coalition, Says Governors Are Rallying Behind Tinubu

Political commentator and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has poured cold water on the prospects of the proposed opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that no serving governor has joined the alliance.

Omokri used family loyalty as a political metaphor, contrasting Tinubu’s son, Seyi, who he praised for unwavering public support, with the sons of El-Rufai and Obi.

He noted that El-Rufai’s son participated in a recent pro-Tinubu gathering, while Obi’s son was “in London, unconcerned about his father’s ambition.”

According to him:

“If your own son, who knows you best, cannot be bothered to be with you, why should others join you?”

In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, Omokri argued that instead of defecting, many opposition governors are aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s administration due to what he described as its “result-oriented performance.”

Omokri also claimed that state governors across the country have witnessed a significant boost in federal allocations under Tinubu’s leadership, allowing them to pay salaries more consistently and invest in infrastructure.

“All states have seen their federal allocation double under Tinubu. They can now easily pay salaries and build infrastructure. Their indebtedness has reduced,” he stated, adding that the recently signed Tax Reform Bills would further ease the fiscal burden on states.

He also took direct swipes at key opposition figures. Referring to the former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, Omokri labeled him “the Butcher of Kaduna” and accused him of nearly sinking the state into debt.

He further pointed to an indictment for corruption reportedly issued against El-Rufai by the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

On former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, Omokri alleged that Obi failed to invest in educational infrastructure, choosing instead to stash state funds in personal banking interests.

“He refused to build even one single nursery, primary, or secondary school and university in his state because he was too busy keeping Anambra State Government funds in his bank to earn interest for his pocket,” he alleged.

Summing up, Omokri claimed the momentum is firmly in Tinubu’s favor.

“More governors are with Tinubu in 2025 than were with him in 2023. Edo is with him. Delta is on the Tinubu team. Akwa Ibom just came on board. Bayelsa is on the way. And others are negotiating,” he said.

He dismissed the idea of an opposition alliance as nothing more than a “collision with failure.”
