Sowore Rejects Alliance with “Old Guards”, Declares Loyalty to the Oppressed

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has distanced himself from the emerging coalition of political heavyweights across party lines, declaring that he will never align with those he accuses of decades-long betrayal of the Nigerian people.

In a strongly worded post released Wednesday, on X Spaces, Sowore made it clear that he does not intend to share a political platform with figures such as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, or Labour Party’s Peter Obi, accusing them and others of contributing to Nigeria’s current state of dysfunction.

“I did not join President Bola Tinubu in distributing heroin and cocaine in Chicago,” Sowore stated. “I did not join Atiku Abubakar in looting the Nigerian Customs dry.”

He went on to list several other prominent politicians, including former Senate President David Mark, former Attorney General Abubakar Malami, former governors Nasir El-Rufai and Sule Lamido, and ex-minister Rotimi Amaechi, attributing specific allegations of corruption, human rights abuses, and betrayal to each of them.

Sowore further emphasized his unflinching stance against corruption and political opportunism, asserting that his only allegiance is to “the oppressed, the disenfranchised, the cheated, the silenced.”

He rejected any suggestion that he would cooperate with a coalition he views as led by the very architects of Nigeria’s challenges.

“Let it be known: I stand with a vanguard of justice. A coalition of truth. A revolutionary team to restore the dignity of the Nigerian people and Africans,” he declared. “Nigeria must be free from these evil doers.”

The statement comes amid talks of a broader opposition front ahead of the 2027 general elections, with top political figures meeting in Abuja to explore a united platform.

Sowore’s comments signal a firm rejection of these talks and reinforce his image as a political outsider unwilling to compromise with the establishment.
