Sporting President Shuts Down €70m Exit Talk for Star Striker Gyökeres

Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas has firmly dismissed recent speculation that star striker Viktor Gyökeres could be on his way out of the club for a fee in the region of €60 million (£51 million) plus €10 million (£8.5 million) in bonuses.

In a rare public comment on the ongoing transfer rumours, Varandas clarified that no such deal is acceptable to the club, stressing that they have set a higher valuation internally.

“I’m not going to say what the price is, the player knows what it is,” Varandas said when asked about Gyökeres’ future.

He went on to categorically rule out any deal involving a €60m (£51m) base fee and €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons.

“He won’t leave for €60m plus €10m (£8.5 million)he just won’t,” the Sporting president stated emphatically, signalling a strong negotiating stance ahead of what could become a high-profile summer saga.

The Swedish international has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards following a prolific season in Portugal, sparking interest from top Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea.

However, Sporting appear determined to drive a hard bargain, with Varandas refusing to publicly confirm any release clause figure or engage in what he described as “media pressure tactics.”

Reports had previously suggested there may have been a gentleman’s agreement allowing Gyökeres to leave under certain conditions, but Varandas has refuted such claims.

No official offers have yet been received, and the club is reportedly willing to keep the striker unless a suitable bid is made that meets their undisclosed expectations.

With the transfer window heating up and Gyökeres reportedly open to a move, Sporting’s firm stance sets the stage for a potential tug-of-war among Europe’s elite clubs.

For now, Varandas’ message is clear: Sporting are not budging unless the price is right.
