Super Eagles stars set to storm Onyekuru’s wedding

Super Eagles striker, Henry Onyekuru is set to tie the nuptial knots with his long-time girlfriend and mother of his son, Esty, on Saturday in Benin, Edo State, with several Nigerian internationals in attendance.

Onyekuru and Esty have been dating for a while and have a one-year-old son together.

The 22-year-old who made one substitute appearance for the Eagles at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt recently moved into his new mansion in Lekki in June.

John Ogu, Oghenekaro Etebo, Kenneth Omeruo, Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa are some of the players who have confirmed their attendance.

Onyekuru joined Everton in 2018 but has spent two seasons on loan at Anderlecht and Galatasaray due to work permit issues.

Gernot Rohr backs Okoye to solve Super Eagles crisis

Gernot Rohr has told newsmen in an exclusive interview that he is shifting to young Fortuna Düsseldorf II, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, as he looks to solve the goalkeeping crisis that has rocked his team since Carl Ikeme quit due to illness.

Rohr’s number one at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, Daniel Akpeyi, came under scathing criticisms for a largely unconvincing display, as the Eagles ended up in third-place after beating Tunisia 1-0 in the classification game.

The German gaffer gave his three keepers Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Francis Uzoho the chance to play at the AFCON as he continued his search for a solution to the problematic goalkeeping department, but he told our correspondent he would add the Okoye to his goalkeeping options.

Okoye, 19, was born in Germany to a Nigerian father and German mother.

Because of his dual citizenship, Okoye is eligible to play for either Germany or Nigeria but the former Bayern Leverkusen safe hands has expressed his desire to represent Nigeria ahead of his country of birth, thus making the job of convincing him easier for Rohr and his technical crew.

The youngster, who plays in the Bundesliga 2, was invited to the U-23 national side for an Olympics qualifier earlier in the year but club commitments held him back.

“My aim is to improve all the departments in the team. The most important ones are the goalkeeper and then the goal scorer, they are already two challenges now, we’ve been working on it for a long time now,” Rohr said.

Rescind your decision to retire from the Eagles, Disu tells Ighalo

Former Flying Eagles coach Tunde Disu has urged Odion Ighalo to rescind his decision to retire from the Super Eagles.

During an interview on Tuesday, Disu described the Eagles first choice striker’s retirement as “premature.”

Ighalo, who emerged as the highest goal scorer at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, announced his decision to quit the Super Eagles after the competition.

“Ighaloʼs decision to quit the national team is premature, the team still needs him. My reason is that the team at present doesn’t have any player with experience to take over.

“My position is not that the country doesn’t have quality strikers, but they should have been paired alongside him to learn,” he said in an interview with NAN.

Disu urged the Shanghai Shenhua striker to ignore the negative comments of fans.

“Ighalo tried for the team and if he is considering the negative vibes from football fans , maybe that is a bit childish, he should have developed thick skin to that.

“Criticisms are part of life, we cannot run away from it, even the best footballers faced the same situation one time or the other; he cannot be an exception,” he added.
